Advanced Film Studies

Instructor: Jill Harper

Description:

Welcome to Advanced Film Studies for students 15 and up. As a student of this course, you will expand your understanding and appreciation of the art of cinema through a deep dive into four different topics (music, costume design, censorship, and queer cinema). Throughout this process, we will view, analyze, and discuss complete films, documentaries, and a variety of film
clips in addition to reading articles and books. Through a combination of film viewings, discussions, readings, and creative projects, you will develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of the power of cinema.

This course is designed to be high input, low output, allowing students to focus on absorbing and analyzing the content without the pressure of extensive assignments. Through lively discussions, scene analysis, and reflective written responses, students will gain a deeper appreciation for the art of cinema and develop their critical thinking skills.

Film list will be finalized by May, 2025.
