Ghibli Book Club for Middle School

Enrollment spaces: 4 spots left

Description:

Welcome to the Fall Semester Ghibli Book Club! In this Summer club for students in middle school, we will be reading five books that inspired Hayao Miyazaki’s Studio Ghibli films, and comparing the transition from book to screen. We will primarily be looking at how each book focuses on the growth of character and changing perspectives/outlooks on life. We will also examine how we can learn from these stories, what they represent, and how storytelling adapts to
film. We require access to watch the films (streaming, rented or library copies) in conjunction with the books to compare differences. Students should be prepared to discuss more complex themes within books and analyze how the movies take these stories and add depth, outside references/meanings, or juxtapose them with real life experiences.
