Description:
In this year long course for students ages 14 and up, we will dive deep into the world of cinema, exploring its history, techniques, and impact on society. Through engaging discussions and weekly film viewings, students will develop a critical understanding of filmmaking while exploring a variety of cinematic genres and styles.
Each week, we will focus on a different aspect of filmmaking, from the fundamentals of mise en scène and camera techniques to the history of cinema and the evolution of film genres. Students will have the opportunity to watch and analyze a wide range of films, including classics, modern masterpieces, and world cinema.
This course is designed to be high input, low output, allowing students to focus on absorbing and analyzing the content without the pressure of extensive assignments. Through lively discussions, scene analysis, and reflective written responses, students will gain a deeper appreciation for the art of cinema and develop their critical thinking skills.
Outside of class, students will be responsible for viewing the weekly film and writing a short response around the topic of the week. Additionally, there will be one project each semester. First semester will center around film genre, second semester will be an in-depth study of the auteur theory.
The film list will be available in May.
