Peter Orvetti is a writer, editor, and Divinity school dropout who homeschool-parented twin sons with his wife Farrar Miles Williams. He graduated from Hampshire College with a dual degree in religion and politics and has mainly worked in political media, but has kept up his spiritual studies on his own.
Fascinated by new religious movements and frustrated by narratives that
present such groups either in lurid terms or that are crafted by their apologists, he began work on an online Encyclopedia of Cults, Sects, and New Religious Movements (cultencyclopedia.com) in 2025. It currently has more than 200 entries and is expected to eventually cover more than 900 groups. He is also active in Washington, D.C., area community theatre as an actor and director.
